Shri I. Jeyakumar, IRTS Chairman, MPT extended a warm
welcome to Shri Kailash Kumar Agarwal, Joint Secretary (Sagarmala), to
the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, during his brief
visit to the Mormugao Port on 28th August 2018. This
is his first visit to the Port, says a release.
Shri I. Jeyakumar, Chairman, Shri G. P. Rai, Dy.
Chairman, Heads of Departments and Dy. HODs held wide ranging discussions with
the visiting Joint Secretary in the Board Room. The Chairman presented a Power
Point presentation and briefed the visiting Ministry official on the existing
facilities and infrastructure available in the port for the shipping industry.
The layout of the port, the various berths and other facilities were also
explained to the Joint Secretary in detail.
The joint Secretary was appraised on the present
status of the Ship Repair Yard and the ongoing process for tendering the
facility afresh for recommencing the same. The Chairman briefed the
visiting Ministry Official on the two Coal handling berths operated by M/s. JSW
and Adani at Mormugao Port and also highlighted the logistics involved in the
out bound movement of imported coal from the port to the hinterland by the rail
network. The present status and completion of the 4 lane road connectivity to
the port was also discussed. He was also briefed on the progress of
the projects undertaken by Mormugao Port under the MOS Sagarmala Scheme.
Shri Jeyakumar, Chairman, spelled out in detail the
prospects of setting up the new Satellite Port at Vijaydurga in Southern
Maharashtra, developed jointly by the Mumbai Port Trust, Mormugao Port Trust
and Maharashtra Maritime Board.
The Joint Secretary was impressed with the visit to
Mormugao Port and evinced keen interest in the new Satellite Port
project. He expressed his happiness on the measures taken by MPT on the Green
Port initiative and pollution control measures implemented in the port and its
environs. He also highlighted the Ministry’s focus on implementing the
Sagarmala Projects in the country and the availability of grants to the Port
sector through the Sagarmala Development Corporation. The meet ended with the Joint
Secretary complimenting the Chairman and Officers of the Port.
