There is now
a green transport available between
Lucknow and Kanpur though for limited
People willing to travel between Lucknow and
Kanpur can now board an electric AC bus from Alambagh bus
terminal which started operation from Tuesday (21 Aug ’18).
The bus will have four trips in a day, two ups and
"We are running the bus on an experimental
basis right now," said regional manager, UPSRTC, Lucknow, Pk Bose. Will
more such buses be introduced on the given and other routes depends on the
performance of the maiden service, passenger feedback and availability of more
electric AC buses.
At present, the bus makes two trips from Lucknow
at 7am and 3pm and from Kanpur at 9.30am and 5.30pm. It takes about three hours
for charging and is charged twice in a day.
Fare for the single trip is Rs 227.
"Its speed is almost comparable to
diesel-operated buses. It speeds up to 80kmph. Still we have kept half an hour
as a margin travel time," said ARM, Alambagh depot, Dk Garg. The distance
it covers is about 93km.
Green transport reduces greenhouse gas emissions from the normal
transport that burns fossil fuel and it also reduces oil demand, an urgent need
for the country that is weighed down by the ever increasing oil import bills.
