The Relief materials to the flood affected Kerala state were flagged
off from Tuticorin by Shri N. Vaiyapuri, Deputy Chairman, V.O. Chidambaranar
Port Trust on 21.08.2018 at 05.00 PM, says a release.
On behalf of five major Ports viz., V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust,
Tuticorin, Cochin Port Trust, New Mangalore Port Trust, Chennai Port Trust and
Kamaraj Port Limited, Chennai, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust, Tuticorin is
co-ordinating to send the flood relief materials by road.
About 10,000 bags containing Dhoti, Saree, Lungi, Bed Sheet, Rice
Pack, Biscuit Pack and Drinking Water bottle has been arranged to be sent to
Cochin. The total value of the above relief materials is Rupees One crore.
M/s. St. John Freight Ltd., ICD - Division, Tuticorin had voluntarily
taken the responsibility of packing and loading the relief items into the
trucks. M/s. Transworld Group, Tuticorin had taken the role of providing 6
number of 20 foot containers to transit the relief items. M/s. Diamond Shipping
Agencies, Tuticorin, M/s. Villavarayer & Sons, Tuticorin , M/s. Hari &
Co., M/s. Seapol Limited Tuticorin and Tuticorin Container Lorry owners
Association have voluntarily come forward to provide the required trucks to
transit the Containers with relief materials to Cochin.
As per the directions of Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India,
the Ministry of Shipping under the abled aegis of Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon'ble
Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping and Water Resources,
River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Shri Pon Radhakrishnan, Hon’ble
Union Minister of State for Finance and Shipping, Shri Mansukh Laxmanbhai Mandaviya,
Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways, Shipping,
Chemicals and Fertilizers have issued orders to the above mentioned 5 Major
Ports to arrange for relief Materials to the Flood affected places of Kerala.
Trustees of the Port, Head of the Departments, Officers and Staff of
the Port and Port users participated in the humble programme.
