Dr.Amrita Sahawas declared the winner of Export-Import Bank of India’s
(Exim Bank’s) International Economic Research Annual (IERA) Award 2017 for her
doctoral thesis titled “Essays in Indian Trade Policy”. Exim Bank’s IERA Award
2017 was announced by Mr. David Rasquinha, Managing Director, Exim Bank, at an
award function held on August09, 2018, in New Delhi says an official release.
. The Award comprises prize money of ` 3.5 lakh and a citation.
The function was graced by Dr. T.C.A Anant, Head of Department, Department of
Economics, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi and Former Chief
Statistician of India and Former Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and
Programme Implementation, Government of India. Exim Bank’s occasional
paper based on Dr.Amrita Saha’s Award winning thesis was also released on the
On this occasion Dr.Anant congratulated EXIM Bank for its continuous
efforts to promote economics research in India. Mr. Rasquinha, highlighted that
the IERA Award, instituted in 1989, currently in its 29th year, is given to
Indian nationals for their outstanding doctoral dissertations in the area of
international economics, trade, development and related financing from Indian
or foreign universities. Commenting on the Award winning thesis, Mr. Rasquinha
noted that the research study throws light on recent developments and the
design of trade policy in developing economies, like India.
The Winning Thesis
Dr.Amrita Saha received herdoctoral degree in 2016 from the University
of Sussex, UK. The thesis was written under the supervision of Prof. L. Alan
Winters, University of Sussex and Prof. Ingo Borchert, University of Sussex.
She is currently working as aPost-Doctoral Researcher, at the Institute of
Development Studies, University of Sussex, UK.
Exim Bank’s IERA Award
Exim Bank IERA Award represents the Bank’s ongoing efforts at promoting
research and analysis in the area of international economics, trade &
development and related financing. The Bank has opened entries for the 2018
edition of the Award.
