Korean Delegation visits Mormugao port

A three member delegation from the DOHWA Engineering Company, Ltd., Republic of Korea, led by Shri Lee Hyuk Gil visited the Mormugao Port Trust and had deliberations with the senior management on 9th August 2018.   

Shri Jaymin Shah, the local representative of DOHWA Engineering Company, Ltd., Korea, was also present at the deliberations.  

The delegation is visiting a few Indian Ports to acquaint themselves with the facilities and infrastructure available for the shipping industry in the Indian port sector with a desire to forge a working relationship with the Indian Ports with the Korean counterparts and work for the development of the infrastructure to meet world standards.  

The delegation was received by Shri G.P. Rai, Dy. Chairman MPT and held wide ranging discussions with them in the Board Room.  The senior executives of the Port were present at the deliberations. Shri Vipin R. Menoth, Traffic Manager MPT, gave a presentation highlighting the facilities and infrastructure available at the Mormugao port to meet the demands of the shipping industry.  

Shri I. Jeyakumar IRTS, Chairman MPT appraised the visiting delegation of the future developmental plans of the port which included the construction of two modern cargo berths at the Vasco bay and a modern Cruise ship terminal. He also highlighted the immediate concern of the port in containing environmental pollution.

 The delegation was also updated on the issue of the prospects of starting a new Ship repair facility in Mormugao port in the near future consequent to the expiry of the lease of the WISL.  Further, the Chairman invited the delegation to explore the opportunities available for setting up of a Ship building facility at the Tuticorin Port in collaboration with Korean enterprise on the East Coast of India. 

The senior port executives addressed all the queries raised by the visiting delegation. The delegation showed keen interest in exchanging the knowledge of technological advancement in the Marine sector with special focus on eco-friendly operations. The delegation visited the cargo berths and other operational areas in the port and acquainted themselves with the shipping operations carried out in the port.  The delegation expressed its satisfaction with the Port management on its visit.
