A weekly Coastal Shipping Service between Mundra port in Gujarat with Cochin in Kerala through New Mangaluru Port was launched recently. The vessel arrived at New Mangaluru port from Mundra on July seventh giving a boost to inter-state transport of domestic cargo through cheapest mode of transport, by sea.

TCI Seaways started the new feeder service in this route. The Indian flag vessel TCI Seaways loaded with containers made its maiden voyage from Mundra port to New Mangaluru Port on July seventh. After completing the cargo handling operations the ship sailed for Cochin the same day.

A spokesman of the New Mangaluru port said the vessel unloaded 50 containers and picked up five containers from the Port.

The vessel, launched in 1997, has a capacity to carry 800 TEUís with 26,000 DWT. Presently TCI Seaways is operating feeder vessels in East and West coast of India connecting various ports. M/s Sri Ganesh Shipping Agency is the clearing and forwarding agent to book containerized cargo for various destinations.

The New Mangaluru Port is witnessing steady growth in container traffic during the past few years due to pro-active initiatives of port management coupled with infrastructure addition. During last fiscal 2017-18, port has achieved record container traffic of 1.15 lakh TEUs registering a growth of 23 per cent.
