JNPT Celebrates 29 years of Excellence

While addressing a distinguished gathering of JNPT stakeholders in Mumbai as part of 29 Foundation Day Celebration of JNPT, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport, Highways, Water resources, River development & Ganga rejuvenation, emphasised the need to harness India’s vast coastal line for transport and bring down the heavy reliance on road transport which results in environmental pollution and it will also bring down the cost of transport in a major way.

Pointing out the need to improve the efficiency standards in logistics, the Minister said he was “very proud that JNPT has been consistently recording new records by improvement in its performance and raising the efficiency levels.”  He was also happy that JNPT-SEZ will benefit the entire Konkan region..

Shri Neeraj Bansal, Chairman, JNPT drew attention to the steps taken to achieve the highest volume of 4.83 million TEUs in March 2018 and also record operating profit of Rs 1140 crore which is the highest among Indian major ports. He also talked about the on-going projects which will make it one of the 15 top ports in the world in the coming years.  After referring to the progress of 4 dry ports coming up in Maharahtra , he showed how the initiative like Direct Port Delivery and other measures of ‘ ease  of doing business’ have brought sizable savings in both time and cost to the trade.

In his comprehensive address, he also referred to the encouraging response to JNPT-SEZ.

Besides a panel discussion by the leading personalities in shipping sector and logistics on JNPT becoming a Global port, annual performance awards of JNPT in different categories were handed over to the winners at the function.

The celebrations became complete with the stakeholders expressing their appreciation for the consistent progress JNPT has firmly registered.
