As part of ‘World Blood Donor Day’
celebrated by the countries around the world on June 14th , V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust organized the
Blood donation camp at the V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust Hospital in
association with Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) unit of Port.
The Blood donation camp was inaugurated
by Mr S. Natarajan, Deputy Chairman, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust in the
presence of DIG S. B.Venkatesh, Indian Coast Guard, Mri M. Misra, Deputy
Commandant, CISF and Heads of the Departments. Mr S. Natarajan, Deputy
Chairman, volunteered to donate blood and also distributed awards to 8 persons
who regularly donated blood through Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Naratajan,
said, “Blood donation is a noble cause and every blood donor has contributed
towards community development. We have a philosophy of giving back to the
society and this is a very genuine way of adding a little bit of us towards the
society. I would like to appreciate the enthusiasm of our employees, CISF
Contingent, residents of Port colony and public who participated in this noble
cause whole heartedly”.
The camp was systematically coordinated
by the team of officials from Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital,
headed by Dr. Mrs. Santhi Pitchumani, MBBS, DCP, Blood Bank Officer and team of
Port medical officers headed by Dr. Joseph Sundar, Deputy Chief Medical
The donors have to pass through the
preliminary medical tests like Blood group checking, Hb count, weight etc. before
donating the blood. The donated blood bags were given to Thoothukudi Government
Medical College Blood Bank for emergency transfusion to the needy patients.
Around 125 persons donated blood at the ‘Blood donation camp’ that continued
for the whole day with full enthusiasm.
Every year, on 14 June, countries around
the world observe World Blood Donor Day. The event serves to thank voluntary,
unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood and to raise awareness
of the need for regular blood donations to ensure the quality, safety and
availability of blood and blood products for patients in need.
