The vehicle is fitted with an air pollution measuring machine and will visit various places in and around the port and will carry out detailed study on identification and estimation on the sources contributing air pollutants in particular particulate matter concentration at JNPT and development of expert system for a prediction of air quality index using real time air pollutant concentration using combination of sophisticated instrumentation system and low cost sensors network, so that authorities can take corrective steps to make sure that the quality of air is on par with acceptable levels.

Observers and environmentalists warn us of the threats of air pollution resulting in many health hazards. Common negative impacts of polluted air point to primarily lung damage especially of children exposed to air pollution and complication of medical problems in the elderly.
