Any initiative, any award that aims at promoting environment is a most welcome gesture reflecting keen sense of social responsibility. As UN says, a healthy planet depends on all of us. And it is very much heartening to note that container lines are seized of the significance of promoting, urgently and consistently, environmental awareness.

Orient Overseas Container Line is very much honored to be the first carrier in the international transportation and logistics industry to receive the Gold Award at the 2017 BOCHK Corporate Environmental Leadership Awards ceremony held at the Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre on 31 May, 2018.

The Awards aim to encourage and recognise enterprises of manufacturing and services sectors operating in Hong Kong and the Pan Pearl River Delta (PRD) region to enhance their environmental performances. Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) Chairman, Mr Kwok said, “More than 600 enterprises took part in the 2017 Awards and together completed close to 1,400 environmental projects, registering yet another record high. I believe enterprises should shoulder their corporate social responsibilities to protect the environment with continuous hard work and relentless innovation efforts. Not only will it benefit the enterprises, but also our next generation.”

“We face more extreme weather events like the scorching heat and dry conditions in May this year. We need to take timely actions to mitigate climate change. The SAR Government is committed to driving Hong Kong’s low-carbon transformation and implementing the ‘Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2030+’. We will review the plan to keep up with the times. China will soon promulgate the Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area, laying out the blueprint for the future development of the region. Hong Kong’s enterprises need to step up the implementation of cleaner production for conservation of energy, material and water resources as well as reduction of carbon emissions, waste and pollutants, so as to enhance the environmental quality of the Bay Area.” said HKSAR Secretary for the Environment Mr Wong Kam-sing.
