Cochin Port to commemorate arrival of first ship

‘Cochin Port Day’ will be celebrated on 25 th May 2018 in commemoration of entry of first ship into Cochin Harbour, says a press release.

The construction of the inner harbour from the year 1921 is deemed as the transformation of Cochin as a modern and safe Port. The first ship-SS Padma entered the inner harbour through the widened and deepened Cochin Gut on 26th May 1928.

Shri. Justice (Retd.) P. Sathasivam, Hon’ble Governor of Kerala will be the Chief Guest during the Port Day celebration to be held on 25th May 2018 (Friday) 03.30 p.m at Samudrika Hall, North End, Willingdon Island. The function will be attended by Shri P. Nageswara Rao, IRS, Chief Commissioner of Central Tax, Central Excise & Customs, Shri. A. V. Ramana, Chairman (i/c), Cochin Port Trust, Shri. Prakash Iyer, President, Cochin Steamer Agents Association, Shri. A. A. Abdul Azees, President, Cochin Customs Brokers Association, Trustees of Cochin Port Trust, representatives from the Trade, employees and pensioners of the Port & their families.

In the function, Best Performing Port Users and Outstanding employees of the Port will be awarded. This will be followed by variety entertainment program presented by the employees and family members.

A ship will be available at BTP berth for public visit from 09.00 a.m to 04.00 p.m on 25.05.2018.
