V.O. Chidambaranar Port, Tuticorin
situated near the land’s end won the ‘Roll of Honour 2017 award’ from Tamilnadu
Energy Development Agency, Chennai, for installation of 500 KW Roof top Solar
Deputy Chairman of the Port S. Natarajan
received the award from the state power minister P. Thangamani, at a function
held in Chennai on May third. Chairman
of Tamil Nadu Energy development agency Dr.Jagmohan Singh Raju, and Mr Vikram Kapur,
Principal Secretary to Government, Energy Department were also present on the
occasion. The award was instituted by Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency
(TEDA), an independent agency set up by Government of Tamil Nadu with a
specific purpose to create awareness and migrate the State from using fossil
fuels to renewable energy.
V.O. Chidambaranar Port Tuticorin has
been the trendsetter in establishing Roof Top Type Solar Power Projects among
the Major Ports. The port has established 500 KW Rooftop Solar Power Plants at
a cost of
Rs. 4.78 crores through Power purchase agreement. The Roof top solar Power
plants have been established at various premises of the Port like
Administrative Office, Port Hospital, Port Schools, Additional Berth, Workshop,
Multipurpose Hall and CCTV Building at World Trade Avenue spanning a total area
of 5530 Sq.m. with 1779 panels.
The average monthly generation of the
Solar Power by the Port is 58,171 KWh units.The installation of Roof Top Type
Solar Power Project have enabled the Port to reduce carbon foot prints to a
tune of 476 Metric Tonnes per year.
Speaking on the occasion Deputy Chairman
of the Port S. Natarajan, said, “We are honoured to be chosen by Tamil Nadu
Energy Development Agency for this distinguished award. This recognition by the
Government of Tamil Nadu is a testimony of the work done by us towards
Environment protection and Port is continuously focusing
to use more of green energy”.
