The Government of India has notified Krishnapatnam Seaport in
South Andhra Pradesh as an authorized Immigration Check Post with effect from February
this year for entry into/ exit from India with valid travel documents for all
classes of passengers.
This information was given by the Minister of State for
Shipping Mansukh L. Mandaviya in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha
The Port sources told Sagar
sandesh that the move will help the ship crew to board and deboard after
completing their job contracts or get
off the ship for vacaqtions. Shreyas shipping a leader in coastal shipping has
made the Krishnapatnam port as its base from where its vessels will operate
throughout the country.
The decision will also give a fillip
to the cruise shipping industry in Andhra Pradesh Government had chosen Mumbai,
Mormugoa, Cochin and Chennai ports for promoting cruise tourism. Krishnapatnam
being close to Chennai could also be the landing point for tourists. Chennai
accounts for the largest number international tourists visiting India.
