Ahead of Railway Budget 2018, Modi’s Make in India gets boost with plans for ‘world-class’ Indian Railways trains

Giving a boost to PM Modi’s visionary scheme of ‘Make in India’, Indian Railways, just ahead of the Union Budget 2018, has plans to elevate Indian trains to world-class status with two sets of trains manufactured at ICF, Chennai, Train 18 and Train 20.

According to the local media, ICF has confirmed the roll-out timelines for these two sets. As the names themselves are self-explanatory, Train 18 will be ready in 2018 and the other one in 2020. June 2018 is said to be deadline for Train 18.

Needless to say, the facilities available in these two modern trains will be upgraded ones like air-conditioned chair car-type and it will offer better travel experience to the passengers than what Shatabdi gives. It is also said that Train 20 will be able to replace Rajdhanis on key routes and it will be a sleeper-class type, suitable for overnight travel.

The idea to develop these modern train sets was an outcome of the “Rail Vikas Shivir” that was organised by Indian Railways in 2016.

One rake of Train 18 will be ready by June this year and it will consist of 16 coaches. Train 18’s route has not been decided yet. “That is a call that the Railway Board will take,” the ICF official said.
