Association has welcomed Mumbai Port’s decision to implement round the clock 24
hours cargo handling operations which was otherwise 22 hours in the past.
Welcoming the Mumbai Port initiative,
MANSA, President, Captain Vivek Anand said, “Continuity in working throughout the
day and night would improve the efficiencies and performance of the vessels in
Mumbai Port. This in turn would definitely attract EXIM Trade to patronize
Mumbai Port. All our members anticipate that the port administration and the
trade unions work in tandem for bringing back the old glory of Mumbai Port by
achieving the numero uno position back soon.”
Mumbai Port in its circular dated January
5th said, “With a view to achieve better throughput and
productivity and consequent reduction in turnaround time of vessel, it has been
decided to implement 24 hours working in Mumbai port for cargo handling
operation, thereby making the cargo handling operations round the
Prior to this change, the shift duty hours
for cargo handling in docks and outlying areas were from 8am in the morning to
6 am on the subsequent morning on the next day in three shifts.
The outcome of this
initiative was an effort of past several years by the port management to
convince the labour unions and a step towards higher efficiency and
productivity. This would immensely give relief to the Ship work days and
quicker turnaround time, Captain Anand said.
