The temple town Madurai will be free of congestion soon with a new ring road

The National highway authority of India will lay a new 83 kilometer ring road around Madurai the second largest city in Tamil Nadu to reduce congestion, the parliament was informed last week.

The NHAi also proposes to widen highways, lay peripheral highways and bypass roads around Madurai in a bid to woo industry to South Tamil Nadu. The Industry in the state is confined to Chennai and neighboring districts and Coimbatore region in western part of the state.

The highway authority is formulating detailed project reports for the following projects around Madurai city in southern Tamil Nadu including widening of the Madurai Natham road in a 36 kilometer stretch, Madurai Theni road ( up to 44 kilometers)  and Thirumangalam Rajapalayam ( 86 kilometers)

The contracts for the road widening projects around the temple town are likely to be awarded during the next financial year.
