The GEFCO Group, a global player in
industrial logistics and the European leader in automotive logistics, welcomes
its full container loaded train to France coming from China after a 11,000-km
journey. The train transported 40ft containers from Wuhan, China, to Dourges,
North of France, for its client PSA, in less than 3 weeks.
The block train left Wuhan, China, on 3rd November
2017, transporting the containers through Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus.
After a journey through seven countries along the Silk
Road trade corridor, at an average pace of around 600km per day, the train,
charged with 40ft containers, arrived to destination Dourges Terminal in France
on 22nd November 2017 within less than 3 weeks.
GEFCO managed and coordinated the project, with the railway
partners in the different countries, together with the teams of GEFCO
Forwarding based in Shanghai, Moscow and Paris.
This first full block train with destination in France
places France in an effective position since most routes until now had final
destinations in Germany and Poland. This venture is part of the
One-Belt-One-Road, an ambitious initiative of the Chinese government to link
China with Europe.
While China is investing massively to
develop and promote rail transport between Asia and Europe, GEFCO continues to
develop its rail services to meet the customers growing needs for flexible
solutions in the area.
Rail freight has some competitive
advantages compared with air and ocean freight and the significant of them is
reduction in transport time and the price is lower though air freight has
time-advantage. Above all, it produces less pollution to the environment, a
major concern of many nations across the globe.
