The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Thursday issued the
licence to Shirdi Airport for day time operations at the first instance. The
airport has a runway long enough for Airbus A-320 and Boeing 737 aircraft.
Civil aviation ministry sources said the regulator has issued the Aerodrome
Licence to Shirdi Airport for public use for day operations after ensuring
compliance of all relevant standards.
"Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) has developed
greenfield airport at village Kakadi, Talluka Rahata in Ahmednagar for which
the aviation ministry had granted 'in principal' approval in 2011.
The runway of Shirdi Airport is 2500 meters and it is capable to handle
aircrafts -- A320, B737," the sources said.
