Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off a direct train service between
Varanasi and Vadodara, the two constituencies he won in the 2014 general elections
before choosing to represent Varanasi in Parliament on September 22.
The PM will launch the Mahamana Express when he visits Varanasi on a
two-day tour, senior government officials said. Railways minister Piyush Goyal
will be present in Vadodara that day while junior railway minister Manoj Sinha
is expected to be present in Surat, according to Railway ministry sources
At present, Sabarmati Express runs between Varanasi and Ahmedabad, with a
stop at Vadodara. The Mahamana Express is a 'Made in India' superfast express
train with plush interiors. The train will have the most modern passenger
coaches in the Indian railways.
This is a welcome step for the passengers travelling from Varanasi to
Vadodara.A lot of Gujaratis travel to Varanasi,a religious place for Hindus.
This will be second direct train from Gujarat to Uttar Pradesh.
Modi had contested from both Vadodara and Varanasi in 2014, winning both
the lok sabha seats. He relinquished Vadodara seat, which was later won by
BJP's RD Bhatt.
