Foreign tourist arrivals to India peaks; last month rise of 72 per cent over August last year

Foreign tourist arrivals in Indian airports has peaked to 1.13 lakhs in August this year as against mere 66,000 during corresponding month last year registering a 72 per cent increase following the introduction of E Tourist visa for different countries..

As many as 9.49 lakh tourists arrived on E Tourist via during the first eight months of 2017 as against around six lakhs during the same period last year.

United Kingdom tops the percentage share of tourists by registering 12.6 per cent of the tourists who visited India followed by USA ( 9.6 per cent) UAE (6.7 per cent), Spain (6.3 per cent), France (5.9 per cent), Italy ( 4.9 per cent), China (4.1 per cent), Germany (4 per cent), Australia (3.4 per cent), Canada ( 3.3 per cent), South Korea (3.1 per cent) Singapore ( 2.9 per cent), Israel ( 2.3 per cent) and Malaysia ( 2 per cent)

The Indian airport the tourists used to arrive include New Delhi 44.1 per cent, Mumbai airport 19.5 per cent, Chennai airport 8.9 per cent, Kochi airport 7.2 per cent, Bengaluru airport 7 per cent, Hyderabad 3.8 per cent, Kolkata airport 1.9 per cent, Tiruvananthapuram airport 1.5 per cent, Tiruchirapalli 1.2 per cent, Calicut 1 per cent, Ahmedabad airport 0.9 per cent, Dabolim airport Goa 0.4 per cent, Jaipur0.4 per cent, Pune 0.3 per cent and Amritsar airport 1.4 per cent.

The number of regular foreign tourist arrivals during August this year was 7.24 lakhs. The number of regular foreign tourists who arrived in various Indian airports during first eight months of 2017 was around 64 lakh tourists with a growth of 15.2 per cent over the same period previous year.

Bangladesh topped the list of regular foreign tourists followed by United States, United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, Malaysia. Japan, Canada, France, Germany, Australia, Nepal, Singapore.China, Oman and UAE.

The maximum number of regular foreign tourists arrived at Delhi airport followed by Mumbai, Haridaspurt land check post, Chennai, Bengaluru, Cochin, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Gede Rail Land check post 2.74 per cent, Tiruchirapalli, Tiruvananthapura, Ghjadanga land check post, Ahmedabad and Amritstar airports.

The Ministry of Tourism compiles monthly estimates of foreign tourist arrivals and tourists on E Tourist visa on the basis of nationality wise, Port wise data received from Bureau of Immigration.
