Regular shipping service planned between Chennai and Vladivostak to counter China's Maritime Silk route

India is planning to start a regular shipping service between Chennai Port and the Pacific port of Vladivostak to transport cargo from Europe and Far East to India in 24 days.

The service is seen as a counter to the Chinese proposal for Maritime silk route connecting Asia with African countries.

The spadework for this regular shipping service has been laid when External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj visited Vladivostak last week. Currently goods from Far East Russsia reach India through Europe which took more than forty days.

Russia has announced visa free entry into its far eastern cities including Vladivostak. India has also opened a Russian desk to facilitate Russian investments in the country.
