India is planning to start a regular shipping service between Chennai Port
and the Pacific port of Vladivostak to transport cargo from Europe and Far East
to India in 24 days.
The service is seen as a counter to the Chinese proposal for Maritime silk
route connecting Asia with African countries.
The spadework for this regular shipping service has been laid when External
Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj visited Vladivostak last week. Currently goods
from Far East Russsia reach India through Europe which took more than forty
Russia has announced visa free entry into its far eastern cities including
Vladivostak. India has also opened a Russian desk to facilitate Russian
investments in the country.
