DGS set to hold Maritime Training Institutes symposium in mid-September

Director General of Shipping has decided to convene a symposium for Maritime Training Institutes which is proposed to be held in Mid-September 2017 at Mumbai says a release. The symposium 2017 will have three sessions, one each in the first and second half of day one and the third in the first half of day two. The subjects for the sessions have been chosen to offer insight into the best practices for maritime training including classroom teaching, technical workshops, communication training/skills and on-board ship training. The symposium will have also have sessions of renowned maritime speakers. The purpose of the Symposium is to offer a platform for the MTIs to learn new methodologies of teaching, new techniques to improve the training standard and sharing of best practices amongst the maritime training institutes.


The Symposium shall be attended by the Directors/Principals of the DGS approved maritime training Institutes restricting the number of participants from each maritime training institute to two. The speakers will be selected based on their expertise, shipping knowledge and practical experience on the subject matter. In a nutshell, The MTI Symposium 2017 will provide for one to one interaction with the maritime training institutes, and discussion with two or more speakers. All sessions will be followed by moderated Q&As sessions. There will be power point presentations on the best practices adopted by MTIs.
