Shri Arun Jaitley,Union
Defence Minister paid visit to Western Naval Command, Mumbai on 19 August
to assess the operational readiness of the Command, according to a release. The
Minister was received by Vice Admiral Girish Luthra, the Flag Officer
Commanding-in-Chief Western Naval Command. On arrival, he was presented a Naval
Guard of Honour.
then proceeded to the Headquarters of the Western Naval Command and interacted
with the Commander-in-Chief. At the Headquarters, the Raksha Mantri was briefed
on the operational readiness of the Command and other relevant aspects of
maritime and coastal security.

operational level table top Tri-Service wargame titled Exercise PARIKSHAN from
07 to 09 Aug 17. The exercise included participation of Operational and Area
Commanders, as also teams from the Eastern Naval Command. Representatives from
Naval Headquarters, and operational commands of the Army and Air Force in the
region also participated in the wargame, for a Tri-Service perspective.
wargame was undertaken after Exercise AARAMBH, which was conducted by the
Western Naval Command in end July 17, to test preparatory actions for combat
readiness of all organisations and units. A maiden wargame of this type,
PARIKSHAN was conducted at the operational level with elements of
strategic and tactical levels included. It was also attended by the Chief of
the Naval Staff, Commander-in-Chief Western Naval Command and Commander-in-Chief
Eastern Naval Command.
