Railway minister Suresh Prabhu said the Railways have
allotted highest ever funds in developing railway infrastructure in Karnataka
but did not specify the quantum of funds allocated to the state as this could
lead to race among other neighbouring
states demanding more funds.
Declaring open a slew of railway projects of the state
the minister said the railways have formed a joint venture with Karnataka for
execution of railway related infrastructure projects in the state.
He said the after
the bullet train project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, the next high speed
Corridor is being developed between Mumbai and Delhi and Delhi and Kolkatta
where the railways are planning ro run high speed trains that can travel at 200
kilometer per hour.
inaugurated commencement of work of Hotgi-Kudgi-Gadag track doubling project in
Northern Karnataka, Situated in Guntakkal-Pune- Mumbai railway line the
doubling project will be taken up for a distance of 134 kiometers.
A number of
integrated steel and power plants are coming up along Hotgi-Kudgi-Gadag railway
route, the doubling work will provide the necessary line capacity for
introduction of additonal trains and smooth movement of rakes to power and
steel plants in the region. Part length of the doubling project between Hotgi
and Kudgi has been taken up under customer funding model with National thermal
Power corporation. NTPC is setting up a 4000 MW thermal plant at Kudgi.
The minister also
inaugurated commencement of work on the 150 kilometer new railway line between
Gadag and Wadi which will provide a direct short route for the people of Gadag,
Koppal, Raichur and Gulbarga areas. the new line will also help to shorten the
distance between Gadag and Secunderabad by 150 kilometers.
The project is taken
up on a cost sharing basis with Karnataka governmentr on 50:50 basis. The land
for the project is given free of cost by Karnataka government.
. Mr Prabhu also
dedicated to the nation doubling of tracks between Tinaighat-Londa-Shivthan and
Banapur-on Hospet Vasco (Goa) sector, The Railway line passes through
Bellary, Koppal, Gadag, Dharwad, Belgaum and Uttara Kannada districts of
Karnataka State. Bellary-Hospet region in Karnataka is the heart of Iron ore
industry in the country. Iron ore from this region is transported to Chennai
and Goa ports for export. The doubling of railway track is also necessary to
move imported coal from Marmagao Port to the Steel industries and upcoming
Thermal Power Plants in Jevargi In Gulbarga District, Thermal Expansion Phase-2
in Bellary Dist. in North Karnataka.
In this Project, 28.75 km doublings have been
commissioned and being dedicated to Nation.
