Tension in Dhamra Port, Four Labourers Killed in Mishap

Tension has mounted up in Dhamra Port Township in Bhadrak district with reports of death of four labourers inside Adani-Dhamra port.

The mishap occurred during manual unloading of coal in the core area of the port. While four of the labourers engaged in coal handling are reported to have been killed, at least three others sustained serious injuries.

However police officials did not specify the number of casualties.

Situation is tense in Dhamra. Agitating workers have staged road blockade. Irate workers on rampage manhandled the port officials. Police forces have rushed to Dhamra to bring the situation under control.

The officials of Dhamra Port Company Ltd (DPCL) were not available for comments.

The Adani group in a press release said it followed the highest and strictest standards of health and safety. “The safety of our thousands of employees and contractual labourers is Adani’s top-most priority and we have a well planned safety training programme for our employees and those of contractors as well. We will investigate this matter fully and find out the exact reasons of this unfortunate accident,” said the release.

According to the latest media report, it is said normalcy is slowly returning to Dhamra port.
