Port performance during the last financial year

Kandla port tops the list among the state owned ports in the country having achieved the highest traffic handled during 2016-17 a 105.44 millin tons followed by Paradip at 88.96 million tonnes. Mumbai with63.05 and JNPT with 62.15 million tons took the third and fouth place among the ports. The lowest traffic handled was by Kolkata dock system with 16 million tons followed by Cochin port with 25 million tons and Kamarajar Port Ennore with 30 million tons.

The per berthing delays due to congestion in the port was highest in Paradip port at 13.85 hours (more than half a day) followed by Mormugoa 9.57 hours and JNPT 6.96 hours. Ships can straightway move into cochin without waiting for a minute  while it took 20 minutes to enter Kamarajar port Ennore followed by 42 minutes in Visakhapatnam port.

The total turn round time of ships was lowest in Cochin port 1.99 days followed by JNPT 2.1 days and Chennai 2.51 days. This meant both Men and machinery handling cargo was efficient in these ports

in the case of Paradip the turn round time of ships was around five days, followed by Kolkata dock system 4.73 days and VOC Port Tuticorin 4.40 days.

In terms of average output per ship berth day Paradip port registered highest with 23, 727 tones followed by JNPT 23,316 tonnes and Kamarajar port Ennore 22,924 tonnes. The lowest average out was registede by Kolkatta dock system 4200 tonnes followed by Haldia dock system 7491 tonnes and Mumbai port 8413 tonnes.
