Tamil Nadu government pressed the centre to expedite detailed planning and
environment impact studies for the proposed industrial node in Ponnery near
Chennai. The state's representative also asked the Centre to involve the state
government at all stages of implementation of the Node
Tamil Nadu also pleaded for adequate flexibility in the institutional
structure for the governance of the industrial node.
The issue figured during the second meeting of Council of Trade Development
and Promotion held in New Delhi on August five. Commerce and Industries
ministers of eight states who are members of the council, representatives of
other 16 states and heads of trade bodies including FIEO, FICCI and CII
participated in the meeting.
Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC), the
nodal agency for Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor has already initiated
the process for Master Planning of three identified Nodes, namely, Ponneri
(Tamil Nadu), Krishnapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) & Tumkur (Karnataka).
The information was given by the Commerce Minister Ms Nirmala Sitharaman in
a written reply in Rajya Sabha on August nine.
