The Multi cargo
terminal at Kamarajar port at Ennore near Chennai inaugurated two months ago
received the maiden consignment granite blocks for exports through the vessel
MV Ultra Africa.The vessel had called at Chettinad International bulk terminal
in the port and left with the export consignment on August five.
Kamaraj Port has
awarded the concession for development of Multi cargo terminal with capacity of
2 MTPA of multi cargoes such as granite blocks, timber logs, grains, bagged
cargoes including sugar, cobble stones, steel cargoes and project cargoes
through Design Build Finance Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis to Chettinad
International Bulk Terminal Private Limited (CIBTPL) for a period of 30 years.
comprises of wharf length of 270 m, Stack yard area of 32 Acres and Railway
Siding platforms. The terminal has been inaugurated by Minister of Shipping Mr
Nitin Gadkari on June 9. The Minister also commissioned Adani's container
terminal situated in the port.
KPL has provided
the Railway siding at the cost of 33.97 crores for the evacuation of break bulk
cargoes handled at CIBTPL. The maiden consignment of granite blocks weighing
3,500 tonnes approx. has arrived at KPL through the Railway wagons on August
four. These granite blocks have been exported through the first vessel M.V. Ultra
Africa calling at the Chettinad International Bulk Terminal at Kamarajar Port
the next day.
