Efforts on to develop Chabahar port

India Ports Global Limited has signed a contract with Aria Banader of Iran to equip and operate two terminals at Chabahar Port—Shahid-Beheshti—in Iran for transportation of goods and other purposes.

As per Article 6 of the contract, efforts are to be made to commence commercial operations at the facility within 18 months from the contract activation date or 4 months from the date on which the Lessor hands over the terminals and the infrastructure facilities to the Lessee in accordance with the terms of the contract.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Pon. Radhakrishnan, in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on 27 July, ‘17, said a release.

The importance of Chabahar port to India is immense and India is committed to develop this port which will enable India to bypass Pakistan in reaching Afghanistan through a sea-land route. It would also counter, among other things, the Chinese presence in the Arabian Sea supporting Pakistan in developing the Gwadar port.
