The 76,436 dwt dry bulk vessel Melite
has run aground off the coast of Pulau Laut, Indonesia, according to the
ship’s owner, Athens-based shipping firm Diana Shipping.
“Although the Company is still assessing
the situation, the crew is in no danger as a result of this incident and there
has been no pollution. It appears that the vessel has suffered damage to her
hull resulting from the grounding,” Diana Shipping said in a press release.
The company did not elaborate on the
damage to the vessel, or what the salvage operation will entail.
Melite is currently
chartered to Uniper Global Commodities SE of Düsseldorf, Germany, according to
Diana Shipping’s website.
