Tamil Nadu government has formally announced the setting up of a Multi
Modal Cargo handling Park at Ponnery in Tiruvallur district 40 kilometers north
of Chennai at a cost of Rs 1295 crores.
The state chief minister Edapadi Palaniswamy made the announcement to this
effect in the state assembly on June 29.
He said three hundred and sixty acres of land is being acquired by the
state government in two villages near Ponnery. The Park will be developed by
Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation (TIDCO) and the National Highway
Authority of India. (NHAI)
The Park situated near the Kamarajar port near Ennore and Kattupalli ports
will have a network of road and rail connectivity.
The Chief Minister also announced the Terminal for the Chennai-Tuticorin
Industrial Corridor near Tuticorin. The terminal for the corridor will be set
up in two villages in Otapidaram taluk. The corridor will be extension of
Visakhapatnam Chennai corridor promoted by Asian development bank.
The terminal will have the state of the art facilities and land to the
extent of 1600 acres is being acquired by the state government for the purpose.
About Rs sixty crores have been earmarked to tone up the infrastructure of the
The state government expects investment to the tune of Rs five hundred
crores in the corridor terminal during the first phase providing direct
employment to ten thousand people.
The Government also plans to set up three Industrial Estates at Vellore,
Tiruvanamalai and Tirvallur districts in North Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs 77
