Coast guard beefs up security for Lord Jagannath rath yatra

Coast Guard has beefed up maritime security along the Odisha coast in view of congregation of lakhs of devotees in Puri Lord Jagannath car festival.

A security blanket has been thrown over temple town of Puri as the annual car festival of the divine trinity- Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra- would kick-start from the 12 century temple on Sunday.

The coast guard has invigorated the maritime security further in view of massive congregation of devotees for the car festival.

The Coast Guard Shaunak with its integral helicopter has arrived  in Paradip port for sea-route vigil in view of the festival. The ship along with fast patrol vessels would keep a close on possible acts of infiltration by subversive elements. The coast guard would act in cohesion with marine wing of Odisha police for shallow water patrolling, said Commandant Paradip Coast Guard, Ashis.

A senior official of Odisha police said nearly apart from state police, the Rapid Action Force, bomb disposal squads would be on the job to avert untoward occurrences.
