Indian Merchant Navy officers to be honoured, for the first time

For the first time Indian merchant navy officers who work behind the scene for our foreign trade and prosperity will be honoured by conferring fifty Pegasus awards at a Mega Maritime event to be held in the city in October.

Addressing a news conference at the press club of Chennai the organisers of the Pride of Seas function Mr Arul Anthony Joseph and Mr Arul Augustine Joseph said the award ceremony will be held once in two years with the first session being held in Chennai. The function will be rotated among the Maritime cities of the country like Mumbai, Kolkata and Ports in Gujarat.

The awardees category includes Captains, Chief Engineers, Chief Officers, Second Engineers and ten awards for overall performance.

A high level jury comprising maritime experts has been constituted to evaluate the award winning candidates. Their service to the profession and extra ordinary contribution while at sea will be taken into consideration for giving awards.

The ceremony will also provide a get together opportunity for merchant navy officers who are on board ships and those working inland areas like ports. The event will motivate thousands of cadets studying in various Maritime colleges in and around the city who will be attending the function.
