Coast guard gives new lease of life to six sea-going fishermen

Six seagoing fishermen who were stranded mid-sea for past 24 hours were rescued and brought to safety by coast guard personnel.

The distressed fishermen the fishing vessel carrying them were caught in rough sea. The coast guard Rajkiran coast guard ship sighted them about 9 nautical miles off Paradip coast.

The CG personnel undertook the search and rescue operation and successfully saved the fishermen's lives, said CG Commandant, Ashis.

The fishing vessel was toppled upside down. It was caught in rough sea and was drifting on the seawaters without direction. As the seawater was unsteady and wavering, the fishing vessel had failed to negotiate the rough sea condition. The windy weather had also made the things worse for the vesselís crews, said CG official.

The ill-fated vessel has 7 crew members. One of them is still missing. Search operation is still going on to trace the missing crew.

After the rescue act, the vessel and its crew members were towed back safely to Paradip.

It is disturbing to note that that fishermen are risking their lives by venturing into sea despite the fact they have been warned not to undertake fishing voyage because of unsteady sea condition, said Paradip marine fisheries officials.
