Three fishermen released timed with the arrival of Prime Minister Modi

Indian Coast Guard Ship Rani Durgavati repatriated three Indian fishermen from Sri Lanka at International Maritime Boundary Line on May 11 . Out of 03 repatriated Indian fishermen 02 are belonging to Rameshwaram and 01 belongs to Thiruthurai Pundi, Thiruvaur District of Tamil Nadu.

The token release of fishermen without their boats is timed to coincide with the arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Colombo on May 11.

 ICGS Rani Durgavati arrived Karaikal at 1615 hrs on  May 11. Post investigation/documentation, the fishermen were handed over to fisheries department. The fishermen were received at Karaikal Port by S Palanisamy, District Collector, Nagapattinam, Commanding Officer, Coast Guard Station Karaikal, Joint Director of Fisheries, Nagapattinam and Assistant Director of Fisheries Nagapattinam (South & North).

Tamil Nadu government has been pressing the central government to release fishermen and their boats but the release of fishermen has been in dribs with no indication about the fate of captured boats.
