Offing Group Private Limited, helmed by Capt. Purnendu Shorey &
Capt. Anupam Raizada conceptualized and successfully executed the LARGEST Inter
College Festival and Exhibition of Maritime Training in India – Naughtica 2017
from 14th to 16th April at the Royal Orchid Resort & Elaan
Convention Center – Bengaluru, India
Here is what team Offing has to share:
What started as a dream, one which was dearer than their sleep for a
period of about 16 weeks – team Naughtica started the journey by packing up
their bags and visiting Maritime Training Institutes around the 4 corners of
Participation in terms of numbers was a rather important aspect that
would make our dream a reality and we had to take a big step towards achieving
same. We came up with the concept of having up to 30 sponsored participants
(accommodation and meals) from each Institute and that was boldly declared.
The dawn of 2017 saw registrations by some of the leading Institutes
and the whiteboard in our humble office started listing them, from Serial No.
The event was finally attended by 464
participants (all taking part in 1 or more activities) representing 26 Institutes from all corners of India.
We are extremely thankful to Dr (Smt) Malini V. Shankar (IAS), the
Director General of Shipping for her personal presence, an opening address
straight from the heart, unveiling of the ‘Naughtica Year Book’ and a rather
traditional inauguration of the event by sounding the ‘gong’ for 3 times.
The Naughtica Year Book is a rare compilation of pictures of all
participants and pearls of wisdom by the luminaries of the Industry
Support from FOSMA, MASSA, INSA and GLOBALMET did stamp the event as
one which had received an acknowledgement by the industry at large.
Our Youth Mentor, Capt. Navin Passey (Managing Director of Wallem Ship
Management India Pvt Ltd & Chairman FOSMA) was pivoting figure .We also
thank the representative of 15 companies who attended the event.
We are thankful to NRI Banking, Kotak Mahindra Bank for coming onboard
as the presenting partners and their support towards the next generation of
Indian Mariners remains unmatched
The Maritime Union of India and NUSI ITF Trust also supported the
was probably the 1st event (at least to our knowledge) which saw
participation from cadets from all streams (deck, engine, electrical and salon)
and also students pursuing the GP Rating programme. A rather ship like atmosphere,
where we all work together.
26 Maritime Training Institutes attended the
event with unabated vibrancy. There was spirited participation in all the
competitions organized, ranging from academic challenges to cooking
competencies including cultural attractions like music and the inevitable swimming.
What was obvious was the sportsmanship of all the contestants for whom
participation meant everything, beyond winning and losing.
Each event recognized winners and runners.
Naughtica will be an annual event and the vision of Offing is to keep
moving the location and increase the participation exponentially!
