"We want to bring 100% quality regime in Indian Steel Sector,” said Mr. Chaudhary Birender Singh, Union Minister of Steel, Govt. of India in his inaugural speech in the ‘India Steel 2017’ conclave. Also present on the occasion were Dr. Aruna Sharma, Secretary, Steel, Dr.Edwin Basson, Director General, World Steel Association, Dr. A. Didar Singh,Secretary General, FICCI, Mr. P.K.Singh, Chairman, SAIL, CMDs of many Steel Companies, Senior Officials from Government of India and State Governments. The event has been organized by the Ministry of Steel, Ministry of Commerce and industry and Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

Deliberating upon the splendid performance of the Indian Steel industry in the year 2016-17, Mr. Singh expressed the confidence that 2017-18 will also be a record-breaking year, with India leading the growth trend among major steel producing countries. “I am asking you to better your best. Let our mission for 2017-18 be ‘Plus One Per Cent Growth Rate’. I want the industry to give as much growth as in last financial year and in fact one percent more,” he emphasized. With Rs. 4 lakh crore   of investments planned in infrastructure sector, there is a huge opportunity for increasing consumption, he added.         

Mr. Singh focused on the  five thrust areas  summed up as the acronym  PRIDE, that are  Production and productivity increase, Research & Development, Indian-made steel concept, Demand boost for steel and Excellence in Quality and Efficiency. He advised the primary and secondary steel producers to come together to establish a “Big-data Analytics & Application Centre for Steel” which will help in promoting usage   of   steel   by   statistically demonstrating the advantages of steel over other materials and also to explore new areas where steel can be used.

It is worth mentioning here that, the three-day event that commenced on 19th April is being attended by many heads of Steel companies as well as delegates and exhibitors from all over the world.
