Embarking on a mission on the wheels,
three enterprising women have pledged to eradicate illiteracy.
Meet the trio-
Mrs. Meenakshi Arvind (45),
Mrs. Mookambika Rathinam (38) and Mrs. Priya Raheja (55).
Bubbling with youthful exuberance, the middle-aged women drivers on an SUV made
their way to Bhubaneswar during the course of their arduous road
journey from Coimbatore to London.
XPD 24/70, a unique road trip by
three intrepid woman drivers who are driving by an SUV (Tata Hexa) to
promote the Literacy Mission of Rotary was flagged off here by Brigadier
Rotarian Narayan Nayak, District Governor, Rotary District 3262 and
first lady Mrs. Sunanda Nayak.
The event was organised by the only all
ladies Rotary Club of Odisha, the Rotary Club of New

Mrs. Sakuntala Baliyar Singh, who graced the occasion, lauded
the ladies’ adventurous spirit and noble mission.
Speaking on the
occasion, Padmashree danseuse, Mrs. Aruna Mohanty said
that the three ladies were role model for women all over the world.
Mrs. Ushashee Mishra, Cine star who was part of the fleet of ten
cars which escorted the ladies to the exit of the city, said that she would
love to join the three musketeers on the road.
President of the Kalinga Motor
Sports Club (KMSC), Mr. Praveen Kumar Bhanjdeo, MLA, called
the effort an impressive and remarkable effort even for
seasoned rallyists. Also present were past Rotary district Governor, Mr. Sibabrata Das,
President and Secretary of the Rotary Club of New
Horizon, Purabi Das and Dr TarulkataDwivedy, members of the
Club, participants of the recently organized all woman's TSD car
rally by the E Rotary Club in Bhubaneswar and members of
the KMSC. The event was sponsored by Bharat Motors, Mayfair
Lagoon, Gugnani Tyres, Surya Foods & Chevrolet Beat.
The drivers led by
Mrs. Meenakshi Arvind, aged 45 yrs, Mookambika Rathinam,
aged 38 and Priya Raheja aged 55 are making for an adventurous
overland trip across two continents, 24 countries and 24,000 kilometres in 70
days. XPD is short for 'Expedition' and 24/70 stands for 24 countries
and 70 days. Mrs. Meenakshi Arvind, who is a textile mill owner from
Coimbatore but is now based in Dindigul, is the brain behind this
expedition. Mrs. Mookambika is an agriculturalist
from Pochai and Priya, an advertising professional.
