Eye witnessess have have spotted oil on the main beach when they had gone to clean up the beach along with friends.  Oil spills are found near the main beach to the left of the Shore Temple. I am afraid it may even wash further down and may worsen in the coming days, they told this reporter.

Residents are worried about the likelihood of the impact of the oil on the heritage structures in the town.  Surfers came in carrying boards that were covered with oil. . The local fishermen have noticed the oil sediments around Kalpakkam. Traces of oil sediments have been found from the Kovalam beach to the temple town Mamallapuram. Fishermen are finding it difficult to sell their stocks because of the bad odour.
