Women have now begun to play pivotal role in Odisha’s
agriculture sectors as a large number of homemakers emerged out of the
household chores to be at the farm fields to augment their respective families’
income. This augurs well for agrarian economy of Odisha besides women empowerment.
Distinguished speakers participating in the
international women’s day celebration at the ICAR- Central Institute for Women
in Agriculture (ICAR-CIWA),Bhubaneswar said this while asserting that
empowerment of women would go a long way in invigoration of agriculture sector.
On this occasion, Ms. Namrata Chadha, renowned
social activist and former member State Commission for Women, Odisha was the
Chief Guest. Mrs. Sujata Barik, IMC member, Smt. Pratima Mishra, IMC member,
Dr. Meena Senapati, Women Entrepreneur, Mrs. Supreety Mishra, Women Entrepreneur,
were the Guests of Honour. The programme was attended by 30 farm women from
adopted village of ICAR-CIWA and Staff of ICAR-CIWA and media personnel.
The program began with the invocation of ICAR
Song. Dr. Tanuja Somarajan, Nodal Officer, delivered welcome address, briefed
about the importance of the occasion. Smt. Sujata Barik, shared her thoughts on
the occasion. Smt. Pratima Mishra, encouraged the institute to keep up the good
work. Dr. Meena Senapati and Mrs. Supreety Mishra, Women Entrepreneur, shared
their experience and thus proved to be a source of inspiration for all the farm
women. Ms. Namrata Chadha, Chief Guest started with congratulating the
institute for celebrating
International Women's day and wished for the
bright future of the institute. She stressed on the importance of the rights of
the women and also appreciated the work done by the institute for the farm women.
Dr. Jatinder Kishtwaria, Director ICAR-CIWA, delivered the presidential talk,
summarizing the journey of women through the history. She also illuminated the
way ahead for the improvement of
Launching of knowledge services through mobile
voice messages for women farmers by Reliance Foundation was done by the
Director, ICAR -CIWA. The elocution competition winners of the theme "Be
bold for change” were awarded on the occasion. Dr. Jyoti Nayak, Senior Scientist
and Co-Nodal Officer proposed the vote of thanks.
