Ms Nutan Guha Biswas a 1983 IAS cadre office has been appointed as
Chairperson of Inland Waterways Authority of India under the Shipping Ministry
with immediate effect as per the recommendation of the Appointments committee
of the Union Cabinet.
Ms Biswas was holding the post of Additional Secretary in the Ministry of
Women and Child development. Under the new position she will be taking over,
she will be promoted to the rank of Secretary by upgrading the post.
The Current Chairman Mr Amitabh Verma, IAS is being repatriated to the
parent cadre with immediate effect. The authority with its headquarters at
Noida near Delhi is playing an important role in development of over one
hundred waterways in the country.
The waterway one from Allahabad to Haldia is accorded the top priority for
movement of goods in the Indo gangetic plain states of Uttar Pradesh Bihar,
Jharkhand and West Bengal.
