Loading of wheat
resumed at Kandla port on May 17 after the operations were suspended due to
lack of clarity in the export ban order issued by the Directorate General of
Foreign Trade.
The loading operations started in five vessels at the port bound for various international
destinations. The loading was half way when it had to be stopped
Operations
resumed in the vessel bound for Egypt with which country India had entered into
an agreement. The five vessels where the loading operations resumed are to take
nearly three lakh tons of wheat to Egypt, Bangladesh, Oman, Indonesia and
Brazil.
Resumption of loading came as a big relief to the
drivers of around four thousand trucks stranded near the entrance of Kandla port for days together
with wheat from mostly Punjab and Haryana.
The loading had remained suspended since May
14th.
