Indian Coast Guard's offshore patrol vessel Vigraha was commissioned in
Chennai by defense minister Rajanath
singh on august 28th. The ship will be based at Visakhapatnam and operate on
the eastern seaboard.
Augmentation in the
security capabilities; so no terrorist attack by sea after 2008 Mumbai incident
Addressing the gathering on occasion, defence minister Rajnath Singh said
along with increasing its capability, the Coast Guard is continuously enhancing
the capability of the nation. “It is the result of this augmentation in the
security capabilities that we have not suffered any terrorist accident by sea
route since the 2008 Mumbai attack,” he said.
The Coast Guard has always been ready to extend help the neighbouring
countries in line with the spirit of inclusiveness, he said. He however did not
comment on the frequent attack on Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy
Nadu minister for industries Thangam Thennarasu was also present on the
