A Green Port at Nagapatinam a possibility soon

The Tamil Nadu government is considering the setting up of a Green port which will not handle hazardous substances at Nagapatinam in the joint sector. The state government is scouting for private partners to set up the port in Central Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Edapaddy K Palaniswamy said while declaring slew of developmental projects in Nagapatninam district a few days ago.

Cuddalore port owned the state's maritime agency will soon be recomissioned for commercial shipping activities as the expansion work, being carried out at a cost of Rs 135 crore, is nearing completion. The expansion project which will substantially improve the handling capacity of the port is being taken up under the sagar mala project of the central government. the project had suffered delays due to glitches with the Union environemtn ministry  but the ministry has cleared the proposal a month ago.

He ruled out the possibility of implementing sons of the soil be given priority in jobs like in the BJP ruled states of Madhya pradesh and Karnataka saying there is shortage of people for jobs in Tamil Nadu. There are plenty of jobs available in the state and there was need for more workforce from other states he said.  As many as 7.5 lakh people have come from other States to work here. We need more people, and we just discussed that we need more people to be employed.”

The Chief Minister declined to comment on the demand for setting up a Second Capital for Tamil Nadu saying “Enough is said about declaring a second capital.” , Mayiladuthurai district will officially come into existence soon.“Meetings are underway to collect opinion on bifurcation," he said.
