A sad day for the
maritime world in India. Maritime community lost a tall leader and a brilliant
mind who made mastering the nautical discipline simple for over 3 generations
of seafarers, not only in India but across the world.
motivating, excellent teacher & mentor has been an
inspiration to several generations of seafarers.
Born in Sept,
1942, Capt H. Subramaniam was educated in the Lawrence School, Lovedale , one
of the best school in India. He passed out of the T.S Dufferin in 1960 winning
several prizes including ‘ Runner up for the President’s Gold Medal’. He then
served at sea until August 1968 when he took a
teaching position at the
L.B.S. Nautical & Engg. College ,
Mumbai. In Dec 1990, he took over charge
as Principal of the L.B. S College. In Nov 1991, he was transferred to command
the T.S.Rejendra which conducted 3 years B.SC. ( Nautical Sciences ) degree
courses under Bombay university.
In August 1993, he
was incharge of the transfer of training from T.S. Rajendra to a new shore
based nautical academy called T.S. Chanakya. Having established T.S. Chanakya ,
he again took over charge as the Principal of L.B.S College in May 1995. He
retired from Govt services on 30th Sept 2002 after 34 glorious years
including 12 years as head of maritime training institutions. He then sailed in command again for six
months to satisfy himself that he was also a practicing Master, nor merely a
teaching Master! Thereafter continued as a Nautical Consultant in Mumbai.
