In a major
breakthrough, the Railways carried 2,474 tonnes of turmeric from Nizamabad in
Telangana to Benapole in Bangladesh. The freight rake was loaded on June 21,
2020. Thus far, the turmeric produced was transported by road to Bangladesh,
which is expensive and time-consuming. The General Manager, SCR, advised
consignors transporting agricultural products to utilise rail transport which
is a safer and cheaper option, said a report.

by the Commercial Department of the Hyderabad Division, which met all the
customers and explained to them the advantages of freight loading by rail. With
the support extended by the Railways, freight customers in and around the
Nizamabad area are now showing interest to increase transportation by rail to
Bangladesh, the report added.
