Indian Ports offer discounts for handling of cargo in Shahid Beheshti Port, Chabahar

With United States exempting the Cargo Handling Operations of Shahid Beheshti Port Chabahar from the purview of wide ranging sanctions it had imposed on the Iranian regime, Indian ports JNPT and Kandla have offered promotional discounts for ships calling at the Iranian port in a bid to improve the fortunes of the Port.

India has financed the construction of a terminal at the Iranian port as part of a strategic initiative so that Indian goods could be transported to the war torn Afghanistan bypassing Pakistan. India also plans to use the port as the launch pad for cargo movement to Central Asian Republics and Russia

The Indian ports JNPT and Kandla have made offers for discount in vessel related charges and cargo related charges for vessels calling at the Iranian port for a period of one year. A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) have been formulated to enable the ships to avail of these incentives.

Kandla Port to offer discount on 40 per cent on VRC and CRC for bulk/break-bulk cargo

At the Board meeting held last month, Kandla Port has resolved to offer discount on 40 per cent on VRC and CRC for bulk/break-bulk cargo subject to 5,000 MT or more being handled at the port from/to Shahid Beheshti Port of Chabahar for a period of 1 year from the date of notification. 

Similarly, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) is extending the following discounts for a period of one year from the date of issue of the Trade Notice, subject to compliance of conditions stipulated in SOP.  

JNPT extends 40 per cent discount on Vessel Related Charges for all terminals 

As per its communiqué issued JNPT extends 40 per cent discount on Vessel Related Charges for all terminals (except berth hire in case of NSIGT/BMCTPL) on proportionate basis, subject to loading of minimum 50 TEUs/5,000 MT (exports) on a vessel for handling container/cargo from/to Shahid Beheshti Port, Chabahar and 40 per cent discount on Cargo Related Charges for the containers (import and export) handled at JNPCT for Shahid Beheshti Port, Chabahar. 

The concessions offered by other container terminals operating from JNPT are as follows:

NSIGT/BMCTPL extends 40 per cent discount on berth hire charges also (part of VRC) on proportionate basis, subject to loading of minimum 50 TEUs/5,000 MT (exports) on a vessel for handling container/cargo from/to Shahid Beheshti Port, Chabahar. 

NSIGT/BMCTPL extends 40 per cent discount on CRC for the containers (import and export) handled for Shahid Beheshti Port, Chabahar. 

GTI also extends 40 per cent discount on CRC in case they handle containers (import and export) in future for Shahid Beheshti Port, Chabahar since currently they cannot handle containers to/from Chabahar as per trade restrictions.
