Asian Coast Guard meeting held in Colombo

A high level meeting of the 15th heads of Asian Coast Guards Agencies was held in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo on October eighth. 

The Sri Lankan chief of defense staff admiral Ravindra C Wijegunaratne was present at the inauguration ceremony. Among those who were present at the meeting include the Sri Lankan additional secretary Defense Anuradha Wijekoon and the Chief of Naval staff Rear Admiral Nishantha Ulugethaanne according to Sri Lankan media reports

Initiative by Japan in 2004

The Heads of Asian Coast Guards Agencies Meeting (HACGAM) is an international forum consisting of all major coast guard agencies in the Asian region. This vital forum was an initiative by Japan in 2004, which focuses on Maritime related issues including search and rescue, environmental protection, preventing and controlling unlawful acts at sea, and capacity building.
