AFD a French agency, to provide financing to support the Railway Station Development Program in Punjab

The French Agency AFD has agreed to provide in kind grant financing up to seven lakh EUROS to support the Railway Station Development Program of Ludhiana and Ambala Railway stations in Punjab. The assistance will be routed through French National Railways-Hubs as technical partners to the project. The French assistance will impose no financial liability for the Indian Railways according to an official release.

Indian Railway Station Development Corporation (IRSDC) entered a Tripartite Agreement with French Railways (SNCF) & AFD, a French Agency on June tenth in this regard. On this occasion, the Minister of state for railways Suresh Angadi, French Minister of state for foreign affairs Mr.  Jean Baptiste Lemoyne, Ambassador of France in India Mr Alexandre Ziegler and Senior officials of the Indian Railways were present.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr Suresh Angadi, said, “India and France have a strong and long standing prosperous partnership in the Railway sector. French Railways (SNCF) in the past has been associated with Indian Railways in conducting speed upgradation study for Delhi-Chandigarh section and station development of Ludhiana & Ambala stations.

He expressed confidence that this effort will go a long way in further strengthening Indo-French cooperation and will help Indian Railways in positioning its stations to world class standards.”
