Essar Ports have handled 9.2 million tons of
cargo during the last financial year 2018-19 registering a growth of nearly
thirty per cent over the previous year. The terminals operated by the company
had handled 7.2 million tons during the previous year.
The Mumbai based company operates four terminals
in the country both in the east and west coast.
The growth due to third-party cargo
has been driven by a 131 per cent increase in third-party cargo when compared
to the same period in the previous financial year. Cargo volumes from captive customers also grew, by 11 per cent.
In May 2019 alone,ie last
month, the four terminals cumulatively handled about 4.8 Million tons, up
by 34 per cent when compared to the 3.6
MillionTons handled in May 2018.
India’s port terminals current operating capacity 110 million tons
Essar Ports is one of India’s largest
private sector port operators in terms of capacity and throughput. It has four
operational terminals in India—Hazira and Salaya (both in Gujarat) on the West
Coast, and in Visakhapatnam and Paradip on the East coast. The current
operational capacity of the port terminals in India is 110 Million Tons Per
Annum according to a company press release.
